A poem that was written for me after my fall last year.

Thank you. This is... something special.

The Day You Didn't Die

The day you didn't die
the world cracked apart
to show you all your future paths

In one, the grief takes you,
for too many losses,
for too much pain

In another, you endure,
tremulous, chastened,
proclaiming victory,
fearing defeat

And this one, in which
you simply carry on,
neither fallen nor exalted

Scars visible and invisible
tether you to this precious life;
acquainted with darkness,
gestating Light
