It is finally staying light long enough in the afternoons for me to be able to make it over to Radnor Lake and go hiking, which I did yesterday after work.
I started at the west parking lot and took the South Lake trail, a Moderate-rated trail about 1.5 miles long, if I recall the distance correctly. The trees are just starting to bud, so the visibility is still very good. Surprisingly, there weren't many birds this time, although there were quite a few grey squirrels. There was also a fleet of seven deer, as well as two other pairs (eleven in all).
But the really neat part came near the end.
I had come off the east end of the trail, and was walking back Otter Creek Road alongside the lake, when I heard this odd noise coming from the water. It was almost dark by now, so I had to look closely, but I managed to spot a beaver not ten yards from the shore, having dinner -- the noise was him chewing on a partially-submerged tree.
It was so neat to get to sit there and watch him!
Needless to say, I'm planning on heading back as often as my schedule and the weather will allow! 8-)
