Something very interesting happened at the dojo this week.

One of the things we do in my dojo is work with chi, including physically affecting people without making physical contact. At our 3-day training camp last month, my teacher demonstrated a new application of this he had been working on, with impressive results.

What he did was have his uke ("one who receives," or, as some of us put it, the "demonstration dummy" ::G:: ) stand at the far end of the room. The uke then deliberately worked himself into a rage (one of the easier emotional states for most people to summon on demand, and increases the chi energy levels in the person), then do a full-out running charge at my teacher. My teacher stood there waiting, then thew up a wall of chi directly in uke's path -- at which point uke's head snapped back, his feet went out from under him, and he looked like a baseball player sliding into a base (although considerably less coordinated). It was probably 1-2 minutes before he could comfortably stand up again.

Last week, I mentioned to my teacher that I was curious to see if that would work on me, since so much of the pressure-point and other energy-based stuff either doesn't work on me, or works to a lesser degree. So Tuesday night, we decided to give it a try.

He stood down at one end of the dojo, and I was at the other. I worked myself into a high-anger state, and charged at him.

And he had to jump out of the way. (Fortunately, we'd left enough room behind him for me to stop before I charged into a brick wall! LOL)

I could feel what he was trying to do, but it was like when someone is trying to grab you but can't get a solid grip. It was like the difference between standing in a swimming pool and standing in a stream with a slow current -- I could feel a slight pressure trying to move me, but the "current" wasn't strong enough, or able to hook onto me solidly enough, to keep me from going "upstream."

What it means, I have no idea.

Maybe the amount of energy work I do, and have been doing for so long, allows me to intuitively find "eddies" and "backflows" in the "current" being thrown at me.

Maybe whatever it is that makes me so resistant to the pressure-point stuff (which may also be related to the previous statement) also makes me resistant to other people's attempts to manipulate my energy.

Maybe my "shields" keep their energy from getting through to mine.

Maybe all of the above, and/or something else entirely.

Whatever it is, I find it damned interesting, and I look forward to exploring it further.
