Where I work, we have three different parking locations. The "new" folks have to park ~1.5 miles from the building and ride a shuttle back and forth to their cars. There is also a 4-level parking garage beneath our building, or there is "surface" parking -- parking in the building's regular open-air parking lot.
There is a waiting list of people who ride the shuttle, to determine who gets the next on-site parking spot. Your position on the list is determined by your seniority with the company. If someone with more seniority transfers to our building from another location, everyone else gets "bumped down" the list.
When I started, I was #17 on the list. In the intervening 2.5+ years, I have been as far down as the mid-50's, and as high as #2.
In May, I was at #2, and then they "froze" the list while HR went through the list and compared it against their records, because there were complaints that people who no longer worked for the company still had parking spaces. I figured that *surely* there would be two slots freed up, and I would finally get to park on-site. (When someone new starts with the company, they're told that it usually takes 14-18 months to get a spot. At 32 months, I'm slightly over-due.)
Yesterday, I went and checked with The Keeper Of The List again... and was told that I am now #13! Almost 3 years, and I've had a net gain of 4 slots. 8-(
Yes, I know it's a small thing, but it's an every-day thing, and while the individual annoyance factor is minimal, over time it builds up.
See? I told you I was grumbling about small stuff, and that it should be ignored. ::G::
