Every year, the local classic rock radio station (Rock 103) holds a 28-hour radiothon to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House at St. Jude Childrens' Hospital. It's usually some time in February, so I went to the station's website to see when it was going to be.
It's not there.
WTF?
They have info for the 2006 radiothon, and the 2007 radiothon... but not even a mention of the 2008!
Most of you are probably wondering why I would even mention this. For those of you outside Memphis, please try to understand -- this is a city divided along several lines: racial and economic being two of the biggest. But as divided as the city can be, and as deep as some of those divides can run, the I have never heard any Memphian say a single bad syllable over the St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Folks, we have had homeless people come up with tears in their eyes, empty their pockets of what few dollar bills they'd managed to scrounge up, and say, "You give this to those kids on the radio!"
2007 marked the 16th Rock 103 radiothon to raise money for them -- if you've lived in Memphis for any length of time, you're at least familiar with it. The thought that it might have gone away is simply unacceptable. I would dare say that it is a part of the Memphis culture now, and we would be much poorer (and not just monetarily) without it.
Fortunately, a quick check at the website for the Memphis Ronald McDonald House showed that this year, the radiothon would be in March rather than February, which is probably why the radio station's site didn't have it up yet.
::whew!::
If any of you would be willing, please go to the Ronald McDonald House site and make a donation. This really is a wonderful cause.

ROCK 103 radiothon
Just came across this. The change in the date of the radiothon was made to put some distance between Oscar Night (Major donor) and the radiothon. Since we couldn't change when the Oscars occur, we pushed back the radiothon. Thanks for all of the on going support. I'll look for you on 3/13 and 3/14. Listen live on the net at www.rock103.com

Re: ROCK 103 radiothon
I was really surprised to see this post -- doubly so because I used to work for you (indirectly) a looooong time ago, back when you were at the Memphis MCI Call Center!
Re: ROCK 103 radiothon
Thanks for the on going support of the radiothon and the Ronald McDonald House.
Best regards,
Ken VV
