In which we discover that the depths of stupidity within certain member of my family apparently have no bottom.

The Stoooopid, it burns!

Last weekend, GryphonRhi and I went down to my parents' place to visit them and to take care of "a few small tasks" for them.

Since it was 90+ degrees in the shade, and the limited quantity of tools and space for several of these "small tasks" meant that only 1-2 people could do anything besides stand around "supervising" ::G:: GryphonRhi was inside helping my stepmother and stepsister with things inside the house while I was working outside.

Despite putting in several hours of physical labor in the heat, I think I got the better end of the deal!

Feel free to hit your "Back" button now -- I won't blame you in the slightest!

My stepsister was apparently in fine form, even for her, with some of her comments and assertions. The first Pearl of Wisdom to drip from her lips was this one:

Brace yourself...

"Well, I'm not voting for Obama because his middle name is Hussein, and that proves that he's a Muslim."

From there, she went on to demonstrate her own creative form of logic, and her incredible ability to genuinely believe mutually exclusive things...

She is a kindergarten teacher in rural Mississippi. Her husband is currently in school to also become a teacher, and will begin his Student Teaching soon. Since he will soon be Student Teaching (and presumably full-time teaching eventually), they will soon "be rich," and so they are going to vote Republican because the Republicans will give them better tax breaks.

Shortly thereafter, she mentioned that their gasoline bills were killing them, and that she hoped they'd be able to obtain "Hardship Housing" in the town where they'll be teaching, for use during the week.

Apparently she thinks the state will provide her with a 'second home' closer to where she works, so she won't have to pay as much for fuel during the week... but she'll still be able to go back to her 'real home' about 1/2 hour's drive away on the weekends.

And they'll be "rich," thanks to the fact that they'll have two (teachers') salaries for income. Granted, compared to where they are now, it will be a definite improvement... but still!

Then there was her response to anyone who attempted to point out the huge glaring flaws in anything she said: "Well, that's what *I* think, but I don't really know about these things, so I'm just not going to discuss it further."

There are none so blind as those who will not see....

I swear, some people should just not be allowed to vote. After all, there are so many perfectly valid reasons not to vote for Obama or for McCain.

Not to mention the dichotomy between voting for Republicans because of possible tax breaks, but also expecting to be given tax dollars in the form of "hardship housing." Apparently she thinks the government can cut taxes and then make up for it by making money out of thin air (well, in a sense they do, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms).

I honestly don't know what she thinks, most of the time.

Actually, it's even simpler than that. Most days, I'm not sure that she does think, at all.

Will be on a train tomorrow so I promise to update lj with details then. But I'm alive and well - as far as politics goes I have to vote in a referendum on the 12th and I have not yet decided to vote for or against the Lisbon Treaty.
