43 times around the sun...

It's been a good day. Work wasn't too hellacious, class went well, the cablevision is working again, and the contractor came by to at least get started on some of the repairs we've been needing to get done on the house for a while now.

Oh, and I even got to play with some Jehovah's Witnesses who stopped by! For some reason, my answers didn't fit their scripts!

Things like, "Think of all the hunger, sickness, and death in the world. You'd end those if you could, wouldn't you?" with the obvious assumption that I would agree... except that I didn't, and told them so... and you could see their brains trying to adjust!

Or them saying that we were intended to live forever (hah!), up until Adam and Eve got thrown out of the Garden. I pointed out that we have no way of knowing that, since they weren't in there long enough to give us any real indication of that. They responded with a verse from Romans, saying that sin AND death came to us when people were cast out from the Garden. When I looked at them and asked who it was that wrote the book of Romans, they looked a little abashed and admitted that it was Paul... and that yes, he was the same one who said that women couldn't hold high positions in the church... and no, they didn't agree with that, either....

It didn't take long before they decided they had to go, their ride was waiting for them and probably getting concerned (even though we were standing outside the front door) ::G::

Well, at least you had an interesting birthday? Happy birthday! ((hugs))

My father would be so proud of you. ::grin:: It's ridiculously easy to play with JWs since they never expect to run into people who actually know the Bible.

Glad you had an interesting and fun birthday.

hee! My father, also, would have been proud as we did the very same thing when I was young. I also recall the time, around high school, when I was doing a paper for Hebrew School on 1st century era apocryphal and apocalyptic texts, and pointed out that the scenario they (the JW's) were saying was coming had been said before... 2000 years ago. As in, they thought the end was near then, too. Same signs, same patterns...

43 times round the sun, eh? Let's hear it for at least that many more, in good health, good fortune, and good company!

I have a sneaky feeling your father and mine would have enjoyed talking.
