... or what's been going on that I haven't had time to post about in forever (or at least in slightly more than a month)...
I was reminded yesterday why I hate dentists. I got to spend two hours enduring unpleasant things, and was told to expect my jaw to be sore/swollen for a few days. Fortunately, I heal quickly, but it's still no fun.
Monday was Chinese New Year. To ring in the Year of the Water Dragon, I had a small ceremony with my students at the dojo. I wish I was prosperous enough to give them all the traditional "lucky new year money," but I'm simply not there yet. Hopefully next year!
Last weekend I pulled on my pack for the first time this season, to try to get ready for a hike on a section of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania in May. Since this was my first time out, I was planning on doing 6.5 miles with a 30-lb pack, and a couple of my students were coming along. Well, due to a slight mix-up on the location of the trail head (the green WAY trail vs the green LINE trail), we ended up doing 9 miles instead. Oops? Hopefully this weekend the weather will be nice and let us go again, this time from the right location! lol I've also found a couple of local hiking MEETUP groups, and they do some fun outings.
Rhi and I have decided to try one of the exercise machines called a Gazelle. It arrived last week, and we got it put together fairly quickly -- barring one or two small incidents where the instructions weren't terribly clear. I haven't had a chance to put in a workout on it yet, but it looks promising.
This was the first year that I can remember when nobody in my entire family got a single deer, all season long. I came within a fraction of an inch (literally) of having one, just as the light was fading on the last day of the season. That fraction of an inch? was the distance that my gun's safety control should have been moved in order to let the gun go off when I pulled the trigger. Argh!
The holidays were MUCH less stressful than usual this year. Which isn't to say there wasn't any stress, but the levels were considerably better.
I'm sure there's more, but that's what's coming to me at this point.
