For those of you into hiking, backpacking, etc., I have a question.
There are a lot of recipes out there for "trail foods," including books such as "The well-fed backpacker" and "Lip-smakin' backpackin'" and others.
One problem is that a lot of these require a dehydrator, which I don't have. Another problem is that you can get an idea of whether or not you'll like something based on a printed recipe, but you don't know until you make it.
Do you have any favorite meals for packing on the trail? I'm looking specifically for things to be carried in a backpack, so a minimum of weight is desirable.

One suggestion I do have though....
If you have, or can get access to a vacuum packer, like this:

I like to carry a half-dozen pairs of dry socks, as well as a couple packs of Toilet paper, vacuum packed and sealed. Not only does it ensure dry comfort even should you get rained on, the vacuum process gets the items VERY small once the excess air is removed.
