I got a very amusing compliment today.
One of the groups that holds their classes out of my dojo is a Wing Chun kung fu style. Today they held a seminar with their Sifu (teacher) and several of his students from Alabama.
I haven't done any Wing Chun for many years, and they do some things differently from how I've spent the last 20 years doing them. Trying to use only their positions and movement methods meant that I was spending the entire time fighting my own muscle memory, and as a result I know I didn't put in a very good "showing." In fact, I am given to understand that one of the students up from Alabama made a somewhat disparaging comment about me where the local instructor could hear it.
I have no idea what the comment was, but the local instructor... corrected him sharply. I believe the exact words were, "No. You don't understand. Just because he doesn't do things our way doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. Don't let the glasses and that nice-guy smile fool you. That is one bad mother fucker. Trust me, he will fuck you up!" (emphasis his)
