Well, today makes exactly one month since my former Group Lead, David, was given his invitation to the world.

You know, it's *amazing* how much more work we've gotten done without him there. At this rate, we might actually make the deadline!

Which is not to say that we don't still have our fair share of both of the two most common elements in the universe -- hydrogen and stupidity -- but at least things have significantly improved.

I must confess to a certain amount of frustration, though. Had a possible job lead for a contract position at FedEx recently. They said they wanted someone with Java and Linux, and since my Java has gotten a little rusty, I pulled out my textbook and started going back through it, as a refresher -- 2 chapters a day. About the time I got to Chapter 8, I find out that what they wanted was JMS (Java Messenging Service, IIRC?), which I've never even heard of.

::shrugs:: Oh, well... the refresher was good for me, and I've decided I'm going to go ahead and finish the textbook again. I'm just *really* ready to move on to the next job. I'm not *quite* to the point of walking in and singing my favorite Johnny Paycheck song, but there are days when I consider it! ::G::
