So I'm sitting in the cafeteria in our office building, looking out the window at the snow on the deck outside, when I notice that there's a section a few feet across with no snow on it, and no immediately obvious reason why.
And another, directly across from it.
And two more over there.
In fact, there's two straight lines of six circular spots, each about 2' across, laid out very evenly across the deck.
Then I notice that the concrete sections of the deck have been poured in such a way that each of these cleared circles is almost perfectly bisected by a break in the concrete sections, so that they look almost like some sort of hatch cover. And as far as I know, the only thing under that deck is the parking garage, and maybe a portion of the conference center that's in our building. Either way, I can't think of anything that would be generating localized heat in those patterns under there.
And my brain start thinking, "Hmmmm, we're right in one of the major approaches to the airport, in the state capital -- that would make an interesting spot to put a missile emplacement, wouldn't it?" And for some reason that I've never really understood, people are not allowed to take photographs that include our building in the shot unless they have approval from the building management company....
And no, I haven't gone so far 'round the bend that I think that's actually what it is ::G:: but it did make for some amusing speculation.
