Gakked from wenchita:

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Knock someone out without ever actually touching them.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Kept 4 out of 5, and yes

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, my sister-in-law

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thank heavens, no, although my father did give us a bit of a scare

5. What countries did you visit?
A very strange land posing as the United States of America. I wonder where the real one went?

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
A sold house

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 31, it was the first time I got to train with Grandmaster Dillman and some of the other very high-ranking members of my current style of martial arts.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting promoted to 2nd-degree black belt

9. What was your biggest failure?
I suspect others are better qualified to judge that than I am.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Minor "illness" in the form of increased allergy problems, due primarily to being in a new city, and broke my big toe.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A pair of laptops for myself and Rhi, and later a wireless modem.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Several...
Alyss, for being a truly amazing friend and going FAR above and beyond the call.
My two nephews, during Thanksgiving weekend -- both of them when I was teaching them handgun safety, and one of them when I took him out hunting.
Rhi, for somehow managing to NOT kill or even inflict significant bodily harm upon my step-sister, despite it being RICHLY deserved. Stupidity SHOULD BE painful!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My step-sister, repeatedly.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Computer "stuff"

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting asked to submit a proposal to conduct a martial arts seminar

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
I'm not sure any of them will. However, as with any election year, Fleetwood Mac's "Tell Me Lies" seems appropriate.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same
iii. richer or poorer? Definitely richer, although not necessarily in dollars

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spend time with the people who matter most to me

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating out, considering what a wonderful cook I'm married to 8-)

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Part of it with Rhi's family, part of it with my father's side of my family

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Every single day... with my wife.

23. How many one-night stands?
None. If I can't look at the other person in my bed, say "I love you" and mean it, then one of us is in the wrong bed.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I didn't really have one. I don't watch much TV.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. 'Hate' is a *very* strong word for me, and one that I rarely use. The last person I came close to hating was my team-lead back in South Carolina, and I could even tolerate him -- right up until he made the mistake of letting me find out he was campaigning to get me fired. It's amazing -- less than a week after I found that out, they were escorting *him* out of the building....

26. What was the best book you read?
Just ONE???

27. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
Willie Nelson's album, "The Red-Headed Stranger." I had a copy of it back in High School, lost it long ago, and heard it being played in Starbuck's a few weeks ago. Rhi got it for me for Christmas.

28. What did you want and get?
A new laptop case

29. What did you want and not get?
A new president

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Just ONE??? ::G::

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went out for a nice dinner-and-movie date with my wife. As for my age, I'm young at heart, and slightly older in other places. ::S::

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Seeing "The Pretender" get removed from office -- preferably by election, but I'd have settled for impeachment.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Relatively unchanged. For years, I've tended to go for things that were comfortable, durable, and allow good range of motion.

34. What kept you sane?
Why do you assume that something did? ::G::

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you lust after the most?
I don't go in for celebs much, but among those, I'd say Angelina Jolie

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The incredible stupidity and selective blindness during the election

37. Who did you miss?
My grandparents

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Toss-up between my new dojo-mates, and one of my new co-workers

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Never let the weight of numbers over-ride the weight of your own good judgement.

Dragon? did closing not go through?

*frustrated sigh*

Not yet, no.

We were supposed to close by 12/19, but they had some changes to their loan paperwork that delayed things. Closing attorney swore up and down that it *would* close, and by the end of the year. Mother (who is also our realtor) told him fine, but if it didn't close, *HE* (attorney) was buying the house! ::G::

Current status is that it is supposed to close either Friday or Monday. Considering the dates, I'm honestly not expecting it to be before Tuesday, but I would LOVE to be wrong!

If for any reason it doesn't close by Tuesday, I'm seriously thinking about saying they either put up more earnest money, or we're putting the house back on the market. I'm perfectly willing to sell to these people -- even though we dropped our price a good bit for them -- but this idea of keeping it off the market while they get all their ducks in a row is for the birds.
