Hallowe'en. Samhain. All Hallow's Eve.

Another turning of the Wheel of the Seasons, and according to some, the ending of one year and the beginning of the next.

A time to celebrate the year's harvests, and to plan for the winter to come.

As with most years, this year's harvest contains some good things, some less-good things, and a lot of chaff. ::G:: Taken as a whole, I'd have to say the year has been a fairly good one.

Good things:
I am happily married to the most wonderful woman in the world, my beloved [livejournal.com profile] gryphonrhi, and I know to my marrow that she shares my feelings. 8-)

My father came through his heart surgeries with flying colors, and is healthy enough that last weekend he was helping prepare deer stands for the upcoming hunting season.

My mother came through Katrina with only minor damage to her house ::knocks on wood::

I conducted my first martial arts seminar, had a fantastic time, and got some excellent and highly positive feedback on it.

I have a good job and a nice apartment in a neat city, and that city has a good energy to it -- even if it does sprawl all over Hell's Half-Acre!

I can honestly say of my friends the same thing that Sarek said to Spock, concerning Spock's friends: They are persons of good character. Or, as my grandmother would have put it, they are Quality People. Few of her accolades (or mine) were higher than that. Damn, but I miss her and my grandfather....

Less-good things:
My mother has managed to piss off both of her children and their families. What she did to my sister, I don't know. What she did to us doesn't bear repeating, or dwelling on. Let it be thrown out with the chaff.

My step-sister was finally enough of a little bitch that Rhi chewed her out. This one nearly went under "good things," because heaven knows she's had it coming for years. Actually, the fact that Rhi stomped on her does belong under "good things," but the fact that my step-sister was enough of a bitch to push Rhi to that point belongs here.

And tonight, I get to give out treats to the little ones, and remember...

Blessings of the season, and may your own harvests be both bountiful and appreciated!

{{{{{{hugs}}}}}} I love you, too.

And yeah, I miss Grandma. She was a class act. I'm sorry I never met your grandfather.

Halloween, though -- whee!
