The Magnificent Seven? Or the Seven Samurai?

The latter in this case, although Mag7 was the same story set in the Old West.

They've now gone and fully restored Kurosawa's masterpiece -- considered one of the greatest films in movie history -- and released it as a Criterion Collection 3-disc set. There's a nice article "How 'Seven Samurai' was saved" on CNN.com.

There's an amusing story that I heard several years ago that CNN doesn't mention... ::G::

When director John Sturges wanted to make "The Magnificent Seven", studio execs told him he couldn't do it without being sued by Kurosawa. Fortunately for Mag7 fans everywhere, Sturges knew that "Seven Samurai" was taken directly from a much older story (sorry, I don't know the name), which meant he could get away with it.

Definitely adding this one to the wish list! 8-)
