Sitting this one out

For the first time in my adult life, I will not be participating in a federal election.

Is it because I've lost faith in the system?

Is it because getting to my polling place is too inconvenient?

Is it because I'm not willing to stand in the rain for however long it takes?

Is it because I no longer consider it my civic duty?

Is it because I just don't care any more?

No. It is none of the above.

It's because I screwed up.

When I moved to my new apartment, I forgot that I was now in a new voting district, and forgot to update my voter registration. Therefore, there is no legal way for me to cast a ballot today.

Yes, I could go to my old polling place, and try to bluff my way through -- if I was willing to commit voter fraud.

And I know that the lovely gryphonrhi is going to try to take the rap for me on this one... but no. Yes, I've been very busy, but I'm a big boy.

::sigh:: well, if I'd remembered it sooner, we wouldn't both be in this mess. And you *have* been insanely busy. But yeah. It's embarrassing.

If it makes you feel any better (and it won't), because my legal residence is my Mom's place and I used an absentee ballot last time, I went to the wrong place to vote; and because of the rain and the fact that I was commited to holding down the switchboard the last half-hour of the day, I couldn't get to where I was supposed to go. If Ford loses and the anti-gay marriage amendment passes, it's all my fault. :(

::sigh:: We didn't vote for them either, obviously, so partly our fualt, too. What annoys me most is that yes, Ford's family is a machine in Memphis... but Junior, himself, is a decent guy, and a moderate, and has (and uses) his brain most of the time. ::sigh:: This sucks.
