In spite of not getting a chance to test out my new theory, it was an interesting weekend.
The seminar was a good one. We had some total newbies, so part of the time was spent reviewing information for them -- no problem, it never hurts to review the basics -- and then we went on to some new material.
One amusing moment for me came towards the end of the seminar. We'd been doing some energy-based stuff, and GM Dillman asked, "Who here does a really good chi ball?" (For those not familiar with this, the name is fairly self-explanatory -- it refers to taking your chi, projecting and shaping it into a ball. Usually the ball is held between the two hands.) I held up my hand to indicate that I could do them and do them well. This surprised him, since he's been convinced for some time now that my non-responder status was caused by my energy not flowing well.
He told me to go ahead and make a good ball, and to let him know when I was ready. I nodded, and he stuck his hand between mine (into the ball area)... and didn't quite yell, "Damn, that's HOT!" I'm pretty sure that I even managed to keep from laughing loud enough for him to hear me... ::G::
Slept in yesterday, then got brunch and went to Radnor Lake to hike the trails. It was a lovely day, probably one of the last really good Autumn days we'll have for hiking this year... but I can tell I haven't been doing enough hiking lately! I'm not actively sore today, but I can feel a definitely tightness in my legs and ass today.
As per usual, most of the people there were very pleasant, although there was one kid that I wanted to smack as I walked past him.
At one point, there were two deer right alongside the trail. I was taking a couple of pictures of them, and I noticed a group of about 3-4 adults about about twice that many kids coming up the trail from the other direction. I managed to get the attention of the adult in the lead and pointed to the two deer. He stopped his group and pointed the deer out to them. The kids stopped and watched them ... for about 30 seconds. Then, for some reason, one of them was inspired to jump out, wave his arms, and yell, "TALLYHO!"
I was a bit irritated at this point, but figured he's just a kid, I'll cut him some slack. For all I know this may be the first time he's ever been out in the woods. Then when they went past, I saw that what I was dealing with was not a random group of kids, but a den of Webelos (older than Cub Scouts but not old enough for Boy Scouts, and most of them still wear their Cub Scouting uniform) on a hike. I'll admit, at that point it became very tempting to take their Den Leader aside for a chat, but I decided against it.
Overall, it was a good weekend. 8-)
So why didn't I get a chance to test out my new theory?
Because when I first arrived on-site for the seminar, I mentioned it to my teacher, and he agreed that this was a very interesting idea and that he was looking forward to testing it out "back at the dojo"... by which I inferred that he didn't want to do it at the seminar for some reason. It could be because he didn't want to take up time that was supposed to be for GM Dillman, or it could be that he didn't want to give something like that away to folks who were just there for a seminar (i.e. not part of our organization), or a combination of the two. I can't really blame him for either one.
