For the most part, I had a very good weekend.

On Wednesday, I went to pick up an 8-lb Honeybaked Ham that I'd reserved a week before. The line was out the door and around the corner, but those folks are used to moving people through there, so it only took a little over half an hour. When I got to the counter, I gave them my confirmation number, and the lady looked up at me and said she was sorry, but they didn't have any more hams of that size. I'm convinced that her timing was deliberate, because just as I was about to point out that I had a confirmation number and had been promised a ham of that size, she smiled and said that what they'd do was give me a 9-lb for the 8-lb price. Wench! ::G::

Thursday morning GryphonRhi and I got up and headed down to my folks' place in Mississippi, to share a Thanksgiving feast with 13 other people -- ye gods, what a crowd! But almost everyone was being cordial (my younger stepsister being the primary exception), and the food was delicious, and the weather was fantastic. I got to spend time with my sister's family from NC, and with my father and stepmother, and with my brother and his daughter, with my step-sister's son, and of course with Rhi... and the rest can go hang, for all of me.

Friday evening "we had another Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat" (to borrow a phrase from "Alice's Restaurant") with Rhi's family. Her sister and brother-in-law are excellent cooks, her nieces are all growing like weeds, and the family seems to be doing well -- including her older brother the FBI agent, who just came back from 3 months in the Middle East. Needless to say, one of the things we were all thankful for was that he had come home safely!

Saturday saw us back down in MS, where one of my nephews (the one from NC) passed the tests his grandfather and I had set for him, and was allowed to go on his first solo deer hunt this weekend. Even better, he had a successful hunt, bagging a nice doe. He even did well with dressing out the carcass, right up until it came time to dispose of the remains -- then he balked, having decided that they were far too gross and disgusting for him to handle. Ah, well... he's 14, he'll get better. ::G::

Sunday we headed back up to Tennessee, and I sent off Version 1.0 of my project to my professor. What a relief! Now I just have a paper and a presentation to do, and my degree is finished!

When Ali and I went down to Arizona to spend Christmas with her family a few years ago, her sister bought a ham from Honeybaked. She had picked it up early so she didn't have any trouble. I remember driving by the store, I think it was on the 24th, and seeing the line out the door and around the store. There were even police officers there to make sure that nobody caused any trouble. I'm told that Honeybaked will sell your reserved ham if you don't pick it up before a certain time and I imagine that someone coming in late to find they're SOL might be a bit upset even though it's their own damn fault.
