I had my first visit with the acupuncturist today, to see if there's anything they can do to help me get rid of my allergies and asthma. I feel like it went pretty well.

Why did I go? Among other reasons, because I've been noticing an increase in the difficulties I've been having with my asthma and allergies both, and the only response I've ever gotten from western medicine has been, "Here, use this pill/inhaler when you need it, and just put up with the side effects." So I can choose between sneezing my head off or being unable to stay awake, or I can choose between wheezing/coughing or having my heart race.

Screw that. Time (and past time) to try something different.

I'm going to try to keep notes on points, herbs, impressions, observations etc. for my own future reference. However, in order to avoid TMI, I'm locking those posts. If you actually want to see them, let me know and I'll add you to that list.

I'm interested - I keep thinking I should try that (for allergies and also they claim they can do some good for neck/shoulder pain), but haven't gotten around to it yet. Partly 'cause I'm not all that sure that it'll work on me. So I'd be interested in whether it does for you...

Depending on the cause of the neck/shoulder pain, you might actually get better results from a chiropractor.

As for allergies -- you've seen how bad mine can be, and they seem confident they can get rid of them.

I would. I have asthma, too, and I would love to see what alternative meds work.

You're welcome!

A lot of the information in there is probably going to be pretty technical, but I'm going to try to track it as best I can.

I'll be happy to explain specifics if you ask, but some of it may boil down to, "I don't know, either, that's just what the source material said." ::G::

Hee. I'm reading now, and yes, a lot of it is very dry and technical, but if I get really curious, I have a friend who is an acupuncturist/Chinese herbalist, and I can pester her. (Her LJ is [livejournal.com profile] muppetk, if you want to befriend her. She's always glad to make friends, and loves talking about her "work," so I am sure she wouldn't mind answering questions no matter which of us asked. :D)

I remember how acupuncture felt when my hand was used for a demo when I was in elementary school; I have reason to believe it can be very effective. I'd be interested in reading what your experience with it is.

Cool -- you never told me about that!

and you should be able to see it now.

Yeah, I did it twice - once in third grade, and again in fourth. My memory of it consists of thinking "Huh. That felt...interesting -- in my toes."

Thanks for adding me to the filter.

I'm interested. Also maybe email Neil for another perspective? -- nrg@5elements.com.

I'm interested - a friend of mine is going to school for acupuncture (oh, the wailing about herbs at test time! :) ) and she says it's 'awesome for asthma' - I'd love to see it in action, so to speak :)

If you don't mind mixing your treatments, get yourself some local raw honey. After eating that (doesn't take much) for a couple of months, you should build up resistance to anything pollen-based.

I've heard before that local raw honey (or bee-pollen) would do that, but have never found info on dosage/duration. I'll ask the doc and see what she says.

Thanks!

Def interested. Ma goes to an acupuncturist, and he was the one who sent her to the doctor for her heart...

I tried it to stimulate labour. Nothing doing on bringing it on, but there were def effects during the treatment.

So, yes, would love to read your experiences, especially with your own abilities/knowledge in the equation.
