For those of you who've seen me any time in the last 7 years or so, you've seen how I wear my hair -- yes, it is that rare for me to change it.

Yesterday I got it cut. I told the stylist I wanted a shorter version of the same style I already had. She asked how much I wanted her to take off, "about half?" I said yes, that sounded about right. I clarified that I wanted it off the collar, over the ears, and no sideburns.

Keep in mind that I am blind as a bat without my glasses. Anything further away than the length of my own hand is blurry.

So she takes the electric shears and is trimming up the back of my neck, which is fine... and then she runs the shears across the side of my head!

I pulled away and asked her, "Just how short are you going with that thing?" She assured me that it would be fine, would be what I asked for, and that "it won't be a millitary cut."

She lied.

I don't have half of what I had before. Along the sides and in the back, I don't even have half of a bloody inch! I've got a LITTLE bit more than that on the top -- *maybe* two inches. And yes, it would pass inspection any branch of the military except those requiring a "high-and-tight" cut.

This is the shortest my hair has ever been, in my entire life -- I am NOT a happy camper.

That was pretty much my response, too!

I'm told it doesn't look *that* bad, but that it's very startling.

I don't doubt it. Heavens.
